Frequently Asked Questions
What IS mineral makeup?
Mineral Makeup is makeup made from naturally occurring pigments from the earth. Our Rock Minerals uses Titanium Dioxide & Zinc Oxide. Both of these ingredients possess natural anti-inflamation properties and are known to provide protection from harmful UVA & UVB rays. We also use a natural earth clay, Kaolin. Kaolin is used in nearly all of our products. It's great for drawing out impurities and controling oil.
Mineral makeup is non-comodegenic (meaning it is non-pore clogging) so it doesn’t irritate the skin. Minerals are perfect for sensitive skin and mature skin and a great alternative for all of us who want to keep our skin beautiful without subjecting ourselves to synthetic fillers, dyes, fragrances and other harmful ingredients.
Mineral Makeup is EXTREMELY versatile! One shade of minerals can be used as your eye shadow, lipstick, nail polish, blush, and even eyeliner!
Will it make my skin breakout???
If you have sensitive skin, and have had bad experiences with cosmetics in the past, then natural mineral makeup is for you. While even a good quality natural cosmetic does not carry a guarantee, the likelihood of a reaction is rare. The most irritating ingredients in cosmetics are talc, dye, and perfume. Our products are free of all of these ingredients.
How can I conceal fine lines or large pores???
First, try using your foundation. In most cases, this works without any additional help from other minerals. If after trying this, you do not achieve desirable results...try the following:
Make sure you exfoliate and moisturize. This gives your minerals the perfect canvas. Buff a generous amount of Satin Finish on BEFORE your foundation. You can use your Satin Finish again after all your makeup is applied to set your look.
What is Bismuth Oxychloride and why doesn't O.R.M. use it in their formulas???
Bismuth oxychloride has been known to accentuate pores, making them look bigger as opposed to concealing them. It is also responsible for that overly shiny look other big name mineral makeups can produce. Finally, bismuth oxychloride causes irritation in most women. Itching, rashes and/or breakouts have all been linked to this nasty little ingredient. For these reasons, you will never find bismuth oxychloride on the list of ingredients in any of our products.
My skin is dry! Won't the mineral powder make my condition worse?!?!?
The answer is no. Even though O.R.M. mineral makeup is sold as a powder, it glides on silky smooth.
As a general rule of thumb; makeup of anykind applies much better on skin that has been exfoliated and moisturized. Mineral makeup is no exception. Having a clean moisturized face is the best way to start applying.
If you have severe dry skin, you can always add any O.R.M. product to lotion and apply as a liquid.
Are the color choices on your website true to the actual shades?
This is a challenge. Not just for Our Rock Minerals, but for all mineral makeup companies.
Colors are uploaded as accurate as possible, but depending on monitor settings, lighting, etc. - we cannot say that the colors you see online are 100% accurate.
Samples are offered for a small fee for those who would like to try the shade before committing to a full size product. See our Samples page for details.
